• 소개 및 적용: Butyryl-L-carnitine is a naturally occurring compound that is used as a prodrug via the carnitine transporter OCTN2 and the amino acid transporter ATB0. It can be used as an analytical reference standard for the separation and identification of underivatized butyryl-L-carnitine in human plasma samples using HPLC-MS/MS, as well as for the quantification of the analyte in biological samples using chromatography-based techniques. It is also reported to be used as a biomarker in the diagnosis of carnitine deficiency and acts as a carrier of long chain acyl groups from activated fatty acids into the mitochondrial matrix for β-oxidation to acetyl CoA, which provides usable energy via the citric acid cycle.
