• 소개 및 적용: Talaporfin sodium is a photosensitizer used in photodynamic therapy (PDT) for cancer treatment, developed by Nippon Petrochemicals in collaboration with Light Sciences Corp. and Meiji Seika Kaisha. It is initially approved for early-stage lung cancer treatment, but is also being developed for other hyperproliferative diseases such as liver metastases from colorectal cancer, wet age-related macular degeneration, and atherosclerosis. Talaporfin sodium is a lyophilized green powder synthesized by coupling chlorin e6 with L-aspartic acid. It has minimal cutaneous photosensitivity, is activated at long wavelengths for deeper tissue penetration, and has a short interval between administration and photoactivation. The clinical study of early lung cancer patients showed a 86% complete response rate, and it can be activated by laser or light-emitting diodes. The most significant adverse effect is generalized cutaneous photosensitivity, and other side effects include erythema, edema, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, heartburn, headache, and pruritus.
