• 소개 및 적용: Magnesium fluoride (MgF2) is a fine white crystalline powder with low chemical reactivity and has various uses in different industries. In magnesium metallurgy and the ceramics industry, it is used as a flux, while single crystals of MgF2 are suitable for optical applications due to their large domain of transparency from ultraviolet to middle infrared region. MgF2 is also used in the production of metallic aluminum and as a reflective coating on various optical components. Additionally, MgF2 is used to polarize corrective lenses of eyeglasses, windows, sunglasses, and other optical items to reduce glare from sunlight. It is also recommended for use as ultraviolet optical components for space exploration. Ternary intercalation compounds of graphite with fluorine and MgF2 have high electrical conductivity, making them suitable for use as cathodes or new electroconductive materials. The eutectic NaF-MgF2 has been proposed for advanced latent-heat energy storage for solar power systems. MgF2 is a by-product of the manufacture of metallic beryllium and uranium and occurs in nature as the mineral sellaite. It is a tetragonal, birefringent crystal with the TiO2 type of structure.
