• 소개 및 적용: Methylnaltrexone bromide (MNTX) is a selective μ-opioid receptor antagonist that acts as a peripherally acting receptor antagonist in the gastrointestinal tract. It is used to measure plasma protein binding, permeability, and the membrane coefficient for predicting blood-brain barrier penetration. MNTX is also used to abrogate morphine tolerance and opioid-induced hyperalgesia. MNTX does not cross the blood-brain barrier and does not affect the opioid effects in the brain, such as analgesia. It is primarily used to treat opioid-induced constipation (OIC), which is a common and debilitating side effect of opioid use. MNTX is effective in treating OIC in patients with advanced illness receiving palliative care. The drug is eliminated primarily as an intact drug by slightly more renal than hepatic clearance. The most common adverse events associated with MNTX are abdominal pain, flatulence, nausea, dizziness, and diarrhea.
